A Platinum Emerald & Diamond Ring Commission
Share
This stunning Platinum Emerald and Diamond ring was commissioned by a woman who wanted a special piece of jewellery to celebrate the strong bond she shares with her brother who has passed away.
She chose to customise my Battenberg ring design which has pink and yellow sapphires and asked for the stones to be changed to Emeralds and Diamonds and for the ring to be made in platinum. Emerald is her brother's birthstone.
We sourced several different matching pairs of emeralds for her see in person and to choose her favourite from at our jewellery Studio in Ayr. Colour is a very personal thing as each person views it differently. That's why it is great to see a loose gemstone in person.
Having a piece of jewellery that you hold close to you that symbolises someone who has passed can give a lot of comfort to the wearer.
It is said that mourning jewellery is a tradition that dates back to the 16th Century but I think there is something deep within all of us that needs something physical to hold onto when we have lost someone. It's such an instinctive need that I suspect wearing something that reminds you of a loved one was probably something humans did since before records began.
Rather than this ring being a mourning ring, I see it as a celebration of a life and a symbol that her brother's memory will live on.
