The Promise - Magical jewellery

The Promise is a new collection of jewellery that will magically give birth to a forest.

For every piece of jewellery purchased from The Promise collection, we will plant a tree.

Today only 1% of Scotland's native forests remain due to them being harvested for timber. It would be wonderful to reverse this trend and replant our forests.

This year I have been working on ideas inspired by seeds.

Seeds are symbols of transformation. They represent new beginnings and hope. They are the promise of new life.

I really loved the idea of a collection of jewellery that could transform into something that did good for the world.

Earlier in 2024, I created a collection of jewellery called Fairy bracelets.

Each one was unique and a tree was planted for each one sold.

They all had a gemstone carved into the shape of a leaf and a single silver or gold star. Legend has it that fairies would find lost souls and guide them out of the dark woods to safety. The star represented the guiding light and the leaf, the forest. I partnered with the Ayrshire Rivers Trust who planted the trees for each Fairy bracelet.

ART are a team of dedicated Ayrshire based biologists, ecologists and environmental managers working to improve our rivers and lochs.

They plant trees along the river banks to stop erosion but they don’t just plant trees.

They collect seeds from the trees already growing along the river and then propagate them and pot them in their own tree nursery.

When they are planted, they have much greater chance of survival because they are returned to their native home where the seeds were collected. I love their use of taking something that exists and helping it to thrive, and in turn, it returns the favour by providing a natural protection for the rivers.

Going back to my jewellery collection, I liked the idea of my customers having something beautiful to wear that connected them to the tree that was planted for them.

Instead of creating designs in the shape of the seed, this collection has jewellery that looks like seed pods that the seed has been removed from. If you follow me on social media, you might remember me sharing this picture.

In September, like me, perhaps you crushed some of these below your feet when you were out walking. This became part of the concept for this collection.

I also came across a song on Instagram that I used in one of my Reels that has vocals from a pastor called T D Jakes who preaches about transformation. In the song, he says,

"This is your year of transformation. This is your year to get the tree out of your seed."

This really connected with me because this has been a year of transformation for us.

Our business has changed completely and we are really excited about the future. Getting the tree out of the seed was something I kept in mind for this collection.

Concave silver shapes that look like they used to hold a seed create this collection.

Some of the pods are highly polished and some are textured like the surface of the seed pod I shared the image of earlier.

I love how the shapes have a fairy like quality to them. Almost like they have been collected from the forest floor and made into jewellery.

There are two styles of necklace. A multi charm one with nine seed pods.

The other necklace has two pod shapes.

The Promise silver charm bracelet

There is a charm bracelet with six of the pods, each one different to the others.

The Promise Stud earrings Christine Sadler

There are also two styles of earrings. One stud design with three pod shapes and another like this one but with a larger silver pod hanging from the stud.

"In every seed there is the promise of the forest."

Together, we can deliver on this promise. Wearing a piece of jewellery from The Promise reminds you that there is a tree planted for you because of the choice you made. It may only be one tree but it is part of a whole forest. Just as the trees protect the rivers we need to find ways of consuming that have positive consequences.

Every piece of The Promise jewellery is made from existing silver, not silver that is newly mined. The jewellery industry needs to commit to putting things back into the earth, instead of always taking out. This is our time to plant new ideas for future generations.

You can buy The Promise jewellery collection exclusively on my website.
